CATS AND YOU AND ME by Charles Bukowski
about
our argument tonight
whatever it was
about
and no matter
how unhappy
it made us
feel
remember that
there is a
cat
somewhere
adjusting to the
space of itself
with a delightful
grace
in other words
magic persists
without us
no matter what
we may try to do
to spoil it.

they are limited, have different
needs and
concerns.
but I watch and learn from them.
I like the little they know,
which is so
much."

I couldn't resist this typical cat moment by HISSKISS.
For more cat magic have a look at Mo's enchanting Illuminated Book of Cats, here.
Robyn----reminds me of a few of my best buddies over the years! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Toni, I havn't had a cat in years because of my dogs (who don't get along with cats) but I do remember with fondness the humour they brought to my life.
DeleteCats are marvelous creatures. Semi wild yet so lovable.
ReplyDeleteIt's that wild streak that is so appealing.
DeleteR-so right - such independent spirits - love that last photo. B
ReplyDeletea waggle of his behind and then the pounce.... love it!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it seems that my cat respond when I talk to her, but does she only respond to my voice or does she understands me really ;-)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm.... I think she wants you to think she understands you.
DeleteWhat a wonderful post for morning coffee with cat on lap !!
ReplyDeleteBig smile
Glad the post made you smile :-)
Deletelike you, have not had a cat in years, because of dogs... but I had a crazy siamese once... and pounce she did...
ReplyDeleteWe're Siamese people too. They do seem crazier than most..... in a delightful way.
DeleteLove that last photo! Kind of like Pasha last night as he flung himself at the window because a small bird was fluttering there ( in the middle of the night, strange) but he had that CRAZY cat look on is face!! And I really love that top one!!
ReplyDeleteThat crazy look makes me laugh.
DeleteOh that top cat is wonderful, such a great expression and stance. I've always had a cat, sometimes several, some times many, and several times a cat and a dog, now I have three cats each with their own personality and stories about their many lives.
ReplyDeleteSusan's cat at the top has such attitude! I don't think my dog would argue with him.
DeleteRobyn, Wonderful! Cats are a passion of mine, I have two. Love that poem! xoxo
ReplyDeleteCharles Bukowski is a cat person. Don't you just love this line...
Delete"remember that

Glad you enjoyed the post :-)
DeleteFun, love those cat sketches by Davide.
ReplyDeleteKathryn, she sketches beautiful cows and all sorts of other animals too.
Deleteoh, my goodness! you have done it again! a wildly fabulous post! These are such amazing works. I love the first one for it's delicious humour as well as it's spot on capture of "catness".
ReplyDeleteAnd of course the internet is all about cats, right? If you haven't seen this little cat video you must!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkOQw96cfyE
Great Bukowski poem too!
I enjoyed the cat video thanks Carole. I think they are right. Cat videos are the way to advertise. They always get my attention. They are such clowns, I can't resist watching them!
DeleteWe 3 here in Sydney feel a bit left out Robyn so here's a link to our "An illuminated Book of Cats"

Ariel P. Cat is still the muse of this household, he made me do this!
Mo, your book is pure delight. Loved that yawn .... and "you thought you could afford me. You can't" ...lol! Thank you for the link.
DeleteTop image made me smile, so much going on in that look, the colors.
ReplyDeleteAnd how does Mr. Digby feel about all this cat business? Send him my heartfelt love. :)
M as a puppy Mr. Digs loved cats... and ducks and hens... and caterpillars. Then something happened in that noggin of his and he switched over night. No cats on the property thank you very much!
DeleteThey're beautiful. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Helena. Enjoy your weekend too.
Deletei want to check out susan's art....i like the cat.
ReplyDeletewonderful post.
Thank's Nance. You will find yourself smiling at Susan's work.
DeleteWe have a lot of purring going on around here. There is nothing like a lap kitties to keep you warm.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all the art as usual too, especially the drawings. Thanks Robyn.
Leslie I have you to thank for discovering Valerie's drawings. I just love the one of the bull terrier.
DeleteRobyn, such a beautiful cat post! The poem led me to Garrison Keillor (after losing track for years) so that was a delight too. I love your last photo - don't you just recognise that look!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I know Garrison Keillor's poetry. (Will google him). That last photo stirs up so many memories of cats we have had... or met.
DeleteDon says our next dog will be a cat...
ReplyDeleteI take it Bruce doesn't like cats.
Deletelove that black one at the end
ReplyDeleteI thought you might.
DeleteI like the sketches of Valerie Davide, they are powerful and typified in a 'cool' manner :-)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Valerie's cow sketches too.
DeleteI'm a "dog person". I don't like cats that much. But they like me, although I keep a distance . So my husband says that I just THINK I don't like them... And maybe he's right 'cause I read this wonderful post with such a pleasure! :) Thank you for the poems! And for the links - I'm most impressed by Valerie Davide's drawings!
ReplyDeleteMy step dad disliked cats but our Siamese would always look for him and sit on his lap or even around his neck. Eventually he grew to love her.
DeleteHa-ha! I had such an experience many years ago. We went to see new friends of ours. They had a HUGE cat!:) We were warned not to touch him or tease him. All the guests were sitting and chatting, ignoring the cat, when he, all of a sudden, walked along our thighs, reached me, lied down on my lap and fell asleep. Should I say how shocked I was?:)) The owners said this happened for the first time...
DeleteThey have a way of finding those who usually avoid cats .... as if they can't bear to think you are disinterested in them.
DeleteOooo, and they win, I think!:)
DeleteI love all the cats here but that first one is my favorite. I have a cat so I am very familiar with their 'catness' traits.
ReplyDeleteI think Susan Halls cat is a bit of a thug. Gotta love him!
DeleteHi Robyn, love the pic typical cat pose by HISSKISS, brings back fond memories of my previous (black cat) puddy(s)... 'flash' she lived up to her name, Basil he was a BIG puddy he loved to cruise around with me into town lounging back on the top of the bench seat in my ole' 70's HK Holden :-P Sadly, no cats now as we live on acreage....
ReplyDeleteA big puddy named Basil.... he must have been a character!
DeleteMEEEOOOWWW!!!
ReplyDeletespppppttttt
DeleteThis is such a fun post Robyn, the cats here are so expressive and full of personality!
ReplyDeleteroxanne
.... and it all came together when i found the poem about "somewhere
Deleteadjusting to the
space of itself"

Love it. JOHN tells me that while I have been away George has been lying on his desk between him and the keyboard. Very hard to get any work done.
