JUST THINKING by William Stafford
Got up on a cool morning, Leaned out a window.
No cloud, no wind. Air that flowers held
for a while. Some dove somewhere.
Been on probation most of my life. And
the rest of my life been condemned. So these moments
count for a lot -- peace, you know.
Let the bucket of memory down into the well,
bring it up. Cool, cool minutes. No one
stirring, no plans. Just being there.
This is what the whole thing is about.
great poem, quiet photos thank you Robyn
ReplyDeleteThanks Mo. I took a whole series of Bella watching my husband lying on the couch. She must have stared at him for over ten minutes.
Deleteles hommes et les singes me fascinent..:))) )un petit bonjour!
ReplyDeleteElfi.... and monkeys too :-)
ReplyDeleteI was hoping someone would notice the resemblance between the men and the monkeys in these photos.
Ha, I noticed the men gathered in both pictures. tee hee.... Love the quite poem and the quite moments shared. It looks like a lovely time.
ReplyDeleteWe spend a lot of time studying the monkeys... studying us.
DeleteMore and more, those quiet morning moments of thinking and then of looking out over the horizon are my favourite parts of my day.
ReplyDeleteThis post stirs me.
Starting the day with quiet contemplation sets the tone for the day doesn't it? Glad you enjoyed the post Judy.
DeleteRobyn, Amen! Love the photo of Bella and your husband. xoxo
ReplyDeleteAnnie, Bella will sit and stare at anyone who lies on that couch. Sitting is fine but lying is cause for contemplation.
Deletesweet poem, Robyn.
ReplyDeletethe men, the monkeys and the watching dog, all enjoying their 'moments' of summer quiet.
that is what it's all about, isn't it?
I was too late with my camera to photograph the dog watching the monkeys watching the dog :-)
Deletelovely photos of sentient beings enjoying their quiet moments, in community and alone. Don't you wonder what Bella is thinking??
ReplyDeletewonderful poem! thanks for the quiet Sunday morning thoughts. some great lines here.
Actually, quite a few conversations have centered on Bella's thoughts. She contemplates a lot.
DeleteLovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Penny.
Deleteah quiet contemplative relaxation
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
Deletecontemplating water.....and monkeys.....perfect ending.
ReplyDeleteWater has that effect doesn't it?
DeleteLet the bucket of memory down into the well...
ReplyDeleteYes. Love that!
So you have all of us watching you watch Bella watch your husband watch TV... while we are being watched by Google and etc.. (and inside that TV show many "watchers" watched over its creation. -and etc... etc... that is a lot of stretched out viewing time spiking around the core of one creative act. Or many creative acts folded into this image.
.
The monkeys have a bench but unlike the men do not sit upon it. :)
A circle of contemplation. You have my mind skipping, M.
DeleteThe monkeys actually do spend a lot of time on that bench. I have to hose it down if i want to sit there.
Wonderful.. Just thinking
ReplyDeleteI've been doing a lot of that lately.

ReplyDeleteYou have shared some other poems by William Stafford..? I recall another one equally as peaceful.
Hi grrl... yes I've been enjoying William's poetry. The other poem was 'You reading this, be ready' and in the last past I included his meeting the muse poem.
DeleteWhat a fresh poem. No weight- just like diving into cool water. Clean and clear.
ReplyDeleteI like that ....."just like diving into cool water" :-)
DeleteI love the underlying thought between foto 3 and 4
ReplyDelete;-) )))

DeleteGreat image... lying on the couch... and the poem just fits and feels right...
