THE JOURNEY

THE JOURNEY by David Whyte

Above the mountains
the Geese turn into
the light again
Painting their black silhouettes
on an open sky.
Sometimes everything
has to be
inscribed across
the heavens
so you can find
the one line
already written
inside of you.
Sometimes it takes
a great sky
to find that
small, bright
and indescribable
wedge of freedom
in your own heart.
Sometimes with
the bones of the black
sticks left when the fire
has gone out
someone has written
something new
in the ashes
of your life.
You are not leaving
You are arriving.

"And you? When will you begin your long journey into yourself?" - Rumi

"This painting was done a few years ago, it turned my art into an inward search in an effort to express not what was in front of me but what is inside. Everyone has an internal compass, it has no needle to guide, you only know you are heading in the right direction when it just feels right" - Dan McCaw

  2. such a beautiful post, the paintings of Jeanie Tomanek take my breath away, she speaks so deeply & with such grace about how it feels to be a woman & gives a great a sense of hope for how to walk more lightly on our fragile planet as do all these artists and poets you have shared here, thank you!

  4. Thankyou for this. Love the paintings that show a hound as companion on a journey. Since coming to Australia, the Mary Oliver poem has been a touch stone for me.

  12. Hi Annie, did you see the violin key assemblage in the last post? That got me pondering about the things people collect.

Mo Crow, I'm glad you mentioned the hope in Jeanie's paintings. When I first discovered her work I thought some were a little gloomy but the more I look at them (and love them) the more I feel uplifted by them.

Seth, this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many different aspects of the journey I could have brought into the post, but I was trying to keep the post short ...ish which is difficult to do when I find so many amazing images.

HHnB, my little hound is sleeping at my feet as I type. They are such sweet companions.... well some of them are :-) The other one is digging to Australia outside my window. The Mary Oliver poem is one of my favourites too.

Penny, so many of Jeanie's paintings hit the nail on the head for me.

Deborah, did you notice the piano bits in some of Alice's pieces? More amazing found objects put to good use!

Ro, glad you enjoyed the post.

Annie, so little time and so much to see :-) Enjoy!

Hi Pamela,... physical journeys, creative journeys, spiritual journeys .... there is much to contemplate. Glad this post found you at the right time. xoxo

Ms, I followed the link and listened to the poem several times..... and then went searching for more. Thanks so much for the introduction.

Jacky, I've just discovered Dan McCaw's work and am so enjoying it.

    Jacky,

  21. How dreamy and mythical is Jeannie's work?

I was so drawn to the Night Journey. Some of them are like Tarot cards.
    Speaking lots in one image.

  22. R-thanks for this poignant post - so often so many of us are on some form of journey - there are times we don't even know it or know why - and I love the external versus internal journey concept - always resonates with me. Go well. B
