It's not often that I finish a piece and feel completely comfortable with it. Most times it takes a week or two to tweak and adjust before I'm satisfied. Maybe tomorrow I will feel differently but today I feel complete.
This is glorious in it's intricacies Robyn. I could live with this piece and never tire of exploring the details. I love the door knocker, the spark plug (?), the worn coin purse and the tree you carved, just for starters. Doesn't the state of satisfaction feel lovely? Congratulations! Oh, and the cow, and the ladies and the ....
Oh it's gorgeous. Love your subtle play of color, the order and playfulness, your repeated groups of 3 - or multiples there of. No tweaks necessary - looks wonderfully complete to me!
Oh Robyn, this is gorgeous. I just love all the elements of life, growth, nature, Being!! Completion is a very good thing :) Would love to eventually see a photo of it installed in it's final Home.
Congratulations on finishing this glorious and inspiring piece! I just want to keep looking and looking at it. I would love to see you do some posts where you take us through your process; that would be fascinating to me. What are you doing next?
Wow this is a large piece. I can see why you are satisfied. It is gorgeous. I want to just keep looking at it. All of the 'stuff' draws you in and makes you wonder about the story behind them.
Wow! What a magnificent piece! Your work is so inspiring. I love the ash tones mixed with the earthy rusted elements and the textural qualities and clean orderly lines of the whole piece.
I think that the part of your work that speaks to me the most is your ability to form such large scale pieces out of smaller objects and yet you make everything cohesive and relative to one another.
This looks like a large piece with so many different places to look and wonder. I know what you mean when you finish a piece and fill 'complete'. Sometimes this feeling holds up days later and sometimes objectivity sets in and I can critique it better. But this piece holds up complete right now.
Absolutely fantastic carving Robyn. It must be wonderful to have this piece in your house and be able to admire it frequently. No wonder you are happy with it. I love the tree particularly and the way you have made it the main icon. You artistic energy is definitely galloping along.
Thanks everybody for the amazing comments! This blogging world is so supportive and I really value your feedback and encouragement.
Oogleboops, it was quite time consuming . I'm not sure exactly how long it took but I worked on it for a month, whenever I had the time. The dimensions are 70cm x 66cm.
Sharmon, I have a few small commissions to do before starting another totem.
Thomas, it takes about a month to do this... designing it, making the door from scratch and then carving and embellishing.
Balance and beauty... The tree and it's roots holds my eyes and heart. I would imagine after the feeling of being complete, might follow with contentment. Bravo Robyn!
Truly a work of art Robyn... I love the sense of the "wonder" it conjures up for me, like an advent calendar or a shadow box does...I like to think about why each piece was chosen and for what significance it had for you the artist. I love how I can relate to the pieces in my own way too. Oh it's so "completely" beautiful...Jo xx
Glad you missed me! We had a lovely time, just long enough for me to buy some lino cutting tools and have fun with the children. Plans are well afoot for the big trip. And oh I love, love this piece, sorry I didnt get back to comment earlier. I just love the shape of the tree, the figures, the bird, am into birds, no elephant this time? oh every thing I could look for ages and find something new and wondrous.. Hope your small gift gets there soon and in one piece. Penny
