JUST THINKING

JUST  THINKING  by William Stafford

Got up on a cool morning, Leaned out a window.
No cloud, no wind. Air that flowers held
for a while. Some dove somewhere.

Been on probation most of my life. And
the rest of my life been condemned. So these moments
count for a lot -- peace, you know.

Let the bucket of memory down into the well,
bring it up. Cool, cool minutes. No one
stirring, no plans. Just being there.

This is what the whole thing is about.

    1. Thanks Mo. I took a whole series of Bella watching my husband lying on the couch. She must have stared at him for over ten minutes.

    1. Annie, Bella will sit and stare at anyone who lies on that couch. Sitting is fine but lying is cause for contemplation.

    1. Actually, quite a few conversations have centered on Bella's thoughts. She contemplates a lot.

  11. Let the bucket of memory down into the well...

    Yes. Love that!

So you have all of us watching you watch Bella watch your husband watch TV... while we are being watched by Google and etc.. (and inside that TV show many "watchers" watched over its creation. -and etc... etc... that is a lot of stretched out viewing time spiking around the core of one creative act. Or many creative acts folded into this image.

    .
The monkeys have a bench but unlike the men do not sit upon it. :)

    1. A circle of contemplation. You have my mind skipping, M.
The monkeys actually do spend a lot of time on that bench. I have to hose it down if i want to sit there.
