MUSICAL CHAIRS

This morning everyone was doing their own thing so I thought I would tip toe off and quietly do my 10-min-collage.

The first image to call out to me was of a fine looking table top laden with baked goodies and all the trappings of a domesticated lifestyle. I tear this page out.....and the voice starts....but this is so not you....you don't even like baking.....shhhhhhshhhh....go with it....be still.

Next few pages the phrase, "Musical chairs" pops out at me. I'm attracted to the way Musical is haphazardly painted on the page. The voice is back....whats that got to do with baking....too big....too much...chop off the chairs.....shshhhh, go with it.

Now I'm feeling quieter and in the zone. Next minute the door bursts open....requests fly at me, dog leaps for love, sweet suggestions, the phone rings......my moment is shattered.

An hour later I come back to finish my collage. I'm feeling peeved that I can't even have 10 minutes of quiet to myself. I flip through a magazine and it so happens the image that gets my attention is a cartoon full of mouths and pointing fingers. Perfect!

I put the collage together and smile at the results. The story of my life! Not quite the collage experience I was hoping for this morning but I'm now smiling instead of feeling frazzled.

  1. wonderful. made me laugh. and how true. the only way to have peace and quiet is to live in a cave atop a mountain. then the world would decide you are a wise woman! and they'd all arrive! lyle

  2. Oh Robyn!
The collage process seems to really be working for you. I love the idea of a ten minute process...i need to stop procrastinating and go on over to this website and join up. Your collages are beautiful and hearing the stories behind them is such a bonus.

  3. I love the way you dance with your voice and tell it to be quite. Sounds like cooking up collage is just the thing!

  9. Thanks, Robyn...this course will be the perfect way for me to let go and spontaneously create. I started today and , like you, I think I will post my daily collage. Hopefully, by the end of this the creative current will sweep me away and I will create as I breathe...instinctively!

  11. Funny how it turned out to represent your day inspite of the interruptions. . I signed up and then realized, I don't know if I will have time to make anything since I have company for the next 2 weeks.

  12. Bravo...pushing through the voices and getting to the place you need to be with the collage and in only 10 min. We need insight as artists and this seems to work...I'll give it a try.

  13. Lyle, is that what happens? LOL

Leanne, actually in the beginning it's quite difficult to let go of trying to make a picture. It's all about being spontaneous. You should give it a try. I look forward to Shelley's lessons that arrive every second day.

Leslie, you just have to quieten that critic you know :-)

Caroline, that's great that you signed up. It's an intriquing exercise.

Shayla, today's collage far more peaceful then yesterday's.

Jeane, I would love to see what you come up with. Hope you will post a few.

Mansuetude, Customs came through for me. 3 Carvings safe and sound. Relief! Goodluck with the decision making.

Mimilove, unfortunately my family loves my cooking and would rather stay in and have me cook then take me out for a treat. I just don't like cooking.....especially when there's art to be made.

Curio, I look forward to seeing more of your collages (I've already seen your first...enjoy the journey!)

    Thanks Karin!

Stevie, you can just save the lessons and do them later....though I'm sure you can manage a collage just before lights out. They're quick!

Mary Ann, this is such fun having everyone join in! I hope you will post.

  14. I love the sound of this Robyn, I'm going to check it out. I battle with just "going with the flow" in this sort of exercise and not trying to make it "right", but it's so good to just let the process take its own course as you do. Thank you for sharing this!!!

PS looking forward to meeting the dogs and enjoying your virtual koeksisters tomorrow at our picnic... Chaos or calm welcome! Whatever your day brings ;)

  18. Hello Robyn,

Just popped over from Jeane's blog, ART IT, to see you 10 minute collages. I'm glad you have explained the thinking behind them. I may just take a look at your friend's workshop too! Thanks.

  19. A 10 min collage is an interesting idea. Getting that 10 min to yourself is a effort though going by what you have experienced...Thomas

  20. Collage is amazing in that it is always true to some inner voice that wants to be heard. I love the beings in the lower right clamoring for your attention..what a find!

I am having such a good time reading your blog today!

  22. Oh to find humor in the little things, especially when in the middle of frustration - what a gift!

  23. I just discovered your blog and am so happy I did.

This is a wonderful collage and I can so relate. It's good that you have started the "10 minute collage". Now watch, you'll be interrupted after five minutes, for sure!

  24. Kendalee, This is a good way of training yourself to go with the flow. See you ar the picnic.

Don, I dare you to try it :-)

Katelen, that's why this idea appealed to me. Most days we can manage 10 minutes to make a collage.

    Lynne, I knew you would!

Derrick, glad you wandered over. It's worth a try.

Thomas, this day was the exception. Usually I do manage a full 10 minutes of peace :-)

Katherine, an inner voice that wants to be heard...exactly!

Gaby Bee, so glad you're enjoying the blog.

Beverly, it's best to find the humour rather than pulling ones hair out :-)

Melinda, welcome to my blog. I think I chose a time when I was bound to be interrupted.

  27. Stumbled across this log accidentally... liked the collage idea so I went to the web site and signed up. I have made 3 collages. I have been posting about it on my own blog and wanted to cite you, but then I lost the link, yikes. But, hooray, I have found you again! Looking forward to future collages.

  28. This sounds great! I am going to read more too. Love the collage!

  31. I found your blog a while back, and I have to say that I love, love, love your art...I was intrigued by the collage idea and signed up, and I'm finding the process fascinating...I know what you mean about the little voices telling you what has a certain image got to do with a certain phrase...and yet, it all comes around to telling you something about yourself by the end of the day...I try to do my collages when my husband is out, otherwise I don't get left alone...the process though has opened my mind to being a more intuitive artist...I usually overthink the process...yesterday I did my first intuitive natural collage of found items from the beach and it's fabulous...my husband wants it for his office...
