HEARTWORKS

Detail from Contemporary Prodigal by Paul B Hill

With Valentine's Day just around the corner I thought it would be appropriate to showcase a few heartworks on my blog.

Ceramic hearts by Jacquline Hurlbert at the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery

Labyrinth Heart by Jacquline Hurlbert at The Mary Lou Zeek Gallery

Heart Red Gold by Jill Mayberg at Mary Lou Zeek Gallery

Willow Hearts by Trevor Leat

Rock Heart by Daniel Friedman. River rock, rolled steel and steel reinforcing bar

The next four hearts were exhibited at the Hearts in Athens Exhibition. Artists were invited to submit designs and if their designs were selected by sponsors they would receive a fee. It was a good way for young artists to participate and perhaps have a chance to exhibit alongside well known artists and receive extensive media coverage.

In the heart of summer by Tania Dimitrakopoulou

My Precious by Elena Papadimitriou

Expectations by Maria Chatzitheodorou and Despina Georgiadis-Thessalonikeos. Keys from old PC keyboards, handle and zipper.

Mermaid by Laoureta Papathanasiou

  6. The colors on the mermaid heart are just divine. Lately I've been drawn to more autumnal colors, which is odd, as I was a much more of a "brights" person before. PS - I also went back and got the cross.

  9. Wonderful post. I like the willow hearts. I think the heart artwork works better when the material for construction is closer to nature.

  14. Hearts - the form has universal appeal and I think one of the most recognised symbols the world over - wonder how that happened. It would be interesting to know if there are pockets of people who don't understand the significance of the symbol.
    Great collection of hearts.

    Richard Bohn's Artifact d'Amor
Ceramic Heart, Raku firing. Each piece is hand polished and the heart is glued back together. His work parallels our own hearts. All of use have had our hearts broken and we all mend in different ways, sometimes only emptiness is left. His website is under construction.
